New York City and Y&R

It has been a while since I have posted on my blog. I have been so busy. School was crazy near the end, to the point that many of my favorite hobbies were cast to the way side in order to finish my classes the way I wanted to. Thankfully I finished. It’s actually sort of a bitter sweet thing to finish college. I  know I will miss it a lot. Not just the social aspect, but the constant learning opportunities. I know that sounds crazy, but the more it hits me that I am finally graduated, the more I realize how much I will miss that. I love learning new things…which is why I got an associates degree and bachelors degree and two minors–almost four. It feels so good to say that. 🙂 Anyway, I was very much missing my html classes this week especially, because I can’t seem to access my ftp site to update my website with all of my recent work experience here in New York. I also miss my graphic design classes which kept me drawing and working on art, my writing classes that kept me writing and my sports classes that kept me fit. Now I have to somehow fit all those hobbies into my 6 hours after work as well as find time to socialize.

Anyway, speaking of socializing, New York is amazing. I love the sites, the multiple different cultures, the architecture….but most of all I love the people. Train rides are exceptionally entertaining to me. I could ride the subway for hours. So many interesting and down right bizarre people. I witnessed musical performances, stand-up comedy, fights, religious arguments and –believe it or not–break dancing…ya, in a moving train.

Lastly, I want to comment on work. So far, i have loved it. I love walking along Madison Avenue and saying to myself, “Ya, I work here, no big deal.” Also the people I work with are amazing, no lie. They are just down-to-earth good people. Can’t say much about my campaigns I am working on, but I will say I am working on the Fisher-Price account. I lucked out. Best. Team. Ever. And who else gets to go to work and research toys and watch babies play? Ya, that’s right. You wish you were in advertising too, I know.

Oh and after a recent peruse of my past posts, I realized I leave you hanging a lot with unanswered questions. So here goes a quick summation:

1. I decided to graduate and not come back next fall to finish my editing minor basically because my counselors told me it was unnecessary unless I was planning on getting a job in editing–which will never happen. Also it was easier to go from an internship to a job then to go internship-school-job, so I officially graduated in June after my official internship for credit got over, then I extended my internship to go for the rest of the summer because I was enjoying it so much.

2. Road to the Shire is still going. Two of my hobbit boys recently got jobs at CP+B—jobs, not internships, went straight to jobs–which they totally deserve. I am so proud. Anyway, I was briefed on New Zealand, it was quite the experience, but unfortunately that is all I can say. I am under a nondisclosure for the rest. The boys are finishing up a documentary that is supposed to come out in August.

Okay, I think now I am caught up to speed. I will try to write more frequently….and I will try to up my readership.
